I can't see network drives in my program?

You are on Windows 10 or 11. In File Explorer you can see your network drive, but your program can't. Here is the fix.

Why it happens

Mapped drives belong to your normal sign-in session. A program that runs "as administrator" runs in a separate session, so it can't see them. The setting below tells Windows to share the drive letters between the two.

The fix: EnableLinkedConnections

Before you start: you need administrator rights, and it is worth backing up the registry first.

1. Back up the registry

1. Click Start, type regedit and press Enter.
2. On the top menu click File then Export.
3. Choose a location and a name, set the Export Range to All, then click Save.

2. Add the setting

1. In Registry Editor, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System and right-click it.
2. Point to New and click DWORD (32-bit) Value.
3. Name it EnableLinkedConnections and press Enter.
4. Right-click EnableLinkedConnections and click Modify.
5. In the Value data box type 1 and click OK.
6. Close Registry Editor and restart the computer.
