Microsoft Copilot is here
Microsoft Copilot is AI built into the Microsoft 365 apps you already use. Microsoft 365 Copilot combines large language models with your organisation's own data, such as your emails, files and meetings, to turn your words into drafts, summaries and answers inside the flow of work.
What it does
- Word: drafts and rewrites documents, summarises long ones.
- Excel: helps analyse data and build formulas.
- PowerPoint: turns a document into a slide deck.
- Outlook: summarises long email threads and drafts replies.
- Teams: summarises meetings and lists action items.
Before you switch it on
Copilot can only show a person what they already have permission to see. That is good, but it means any files that are shared too widely become easy to find. Tidy up permissions on shared folders, SharePoint and Teams first.
- It is an add-on. It needs a qualifying Microsoft 365 business plan plus a Copilot licence per user.
- Start small. Try it with a few people who will use it, then expand.
- Check its work. AI makes mistakes, so people should review anything important before it is sent.
